My Son’s Intro to Training

Over the past six to eight weeks I’ve been producing more content around training my son Alex. He’s a 14-year old freshman in high school and weighs about 135 pounds, and he’s finally starting to listen to his Dad about lifting weights.

No matter what you do for a living, kids just don’t want to listen to their parents.  It’s just the way it is when you’re a freshman in high school.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”4374395″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow_3d” css_animation=”fadeIn”][vc_single_image image=”4374394″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow_3d” css_animation=”fadeIn”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeIn”]It’s not that I want Alex to follow in my footsteps or be a world-record powerlifter.  It’s not that I want him to love it the way I do.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black” style=”shadow” border_width=”2″ css_animation=”fadeIn”][vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeIn”]

Constant Pressure

Think about the constant pressure you feel on a squat, deadlift, or 400 meters of lunges. You have to show up, stand up, and be consistent on a regular basis. That’s what I love.

The pressure from the band tension forces you to strain, push, and stand the fuck up. The consistency and discipline it takes to maintain a Lunge & Learn streak, NO MATTER WHAT. The non-negotiables you inject into your life demand more discipline and accountability.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black” style=”shadow” border_width=”2″ css_animation=”fadeIn”][vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeIn”]

I Can See It

He’s listening. I know it’s in there because I’ve seen it. It’s part of the process that made me who I am today. Once you understand these principles, you can apply them over and over again.

I don’t talk about these things, I show him. If you’re a coach… don’t tell them how to do something, show them.

“A leader that leads by example is always the winner.”

It brings me joy to know that he’s understanding the value of not giving up.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

I’m currently in the same situation with my oldest. he woke up a little watching me lunge 100 miles last year. He will be 13 in July and I about to get him started through Bandz and Bodyweight programs. My prediction is once he sees a little muscle pop somewhere from the consistency he will come around more and more. Good luck to you and thanks for all the great content.
