3 Reasons Training Partners Are Important - CoryG Fitness

#1 Pick me up

Most of the time you are not going to be completely 100%, but chances are someone else at the gym will be on those days you aren’t.

So, even if you have one training partner, it will make the world of difference when someone needs a pickup. Arnold always spoke extensively about how important Franco was as a training partner. Another that stood out was Ed Corney because he would expose him on certain areas, which ended with him pushing harder because of his competitive spirit. The great Westside Barbell has some crazy stories of guys rack pulling 900 lbs. out of shear competition.

A healthy daily competition is great especially when you are battling specific numbers. What I’m getting at is that sometimes it’s your day, some days it’s not, and that’s when those training partners bring you up.

If you can recruit your very own crew, it is 100% worth it because finding quality training partners can be quite the task. I have one of the best crews ever right now, and that’s also why I am performing and looking my best. To build off of that, my motivation is at an all-time high because of the experiences that I have gone through being a true test subject within a hardcore environment.

Training partners can be good or bad. If they are bad, you need to be able to cut them and move on to people that are going to help you advance forward. Training partners can be the game changer that are going to push you to hit that PR in the gym or on meet day.

#2 Accountability

I know that my crew is going to be there at the gym counting on me. That is one of the first thoughts that rolls through my head when the alarm goes off at 3am and I don’t want to get up. However, this only happens on the rare occasion because I love what I do.

As humans, we all need to be held accountable, and we surely do not want to let each other down. One of the things I like to do is to recommend trying out competing in shows to my training partners to push them to another level of fitness. I want to see them unlock their full potential because they are counting on me, just like I count on them.

The amount of dedication that this takes is out of this world, and I absolutely love it. If that doesn’t drive you to be a better all around person and athlete, I do not know what does. I have had training partners at all different times of the day throughout my career, but there is nothing like training at 4am with a dedicated squad to push you to new heights.

#3 Stronger together

The tribe is stronger together.

Everybody wants to be a part of something such as a specific community or training group for instance. I have my group at Old School Gym that I see every day, and with that we have each other to lean on for support. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, you’ll have someone there that’s going to be cheering and pushing you through to the end of your session. Having you guys and gals on here makes me feel responsible, and I immediately expect more out of myself because of that. I do not want to let you or my group down.

You should set out to find those like minded people in your local area, and if all else fails, we have your back. This is precisely why I love my job and this site so much. This is our tribe, and the way we work as natural human beings. I just want to say thank you because you are helping me as much as I am helping you.
