3 Things I Learned From Tiger Woods - CoryG Fitness

#1 Everyone is human

I think we all know what I”m about to tell you, but Tiger is as cool as your homie from high school. When I met and started working with Tiger Woods for a full day, I quickly realized that we got along extremely well. He speaks about the same sort of things we do; taking his kids to a soccer game, working out and of course his main job, a professional golfer.

Everything that Tiger does is under a microscope, because as we know he’s Tiger F’ing Woods. What is particularly interesting is hearing Tiger sounding like a normal guy. This reinforced my belief that even though when you seem larger than life, when it comes down to the fundamental level, we are all the same. Tiger is one of those outliers that you hear about that is one of the best ever at his craft.

For a period of time, he was one of the biggest sports stars on the planet. Sure, he’s made mistakes, but in short, he is a human being and we are all bound to have slip-ups. I know that the majority of us know this, but growing up while watching Tiger play and seeing his life unfold, it made me reset my brain even more.

#2 Maniac schedule

Whether it’s hitting golf balls, training to recover, or eating, Tiger’s schedule is unreal. I’m pretty similar to Tiger when it comes to not sleeping much and grinding constantly. He truthfully loves the game of golf and loves the business of being Tiger Woods. After watching him operate in person, I realized that I need to do what I need to do every day if I wanted to be great at some point in my life.

In turn, hopefully this will result in leaving a legacy behind for generations to come. It’s so cliche to hear people say “work hard,” but until you see it first hand, one can only wonder. There definitely are some people out there that have some God-given talents out there, but to be great, it’s still going to take years and years of consistent work.

Clearly Tiger understood this essential concept, and standing beside him watching him hit a golf ball on the same tee box is totally surreal. I know that he’s not winning and dominating as much as he was during his prime reign, but the raw power and excellence was one of a kind to see in person.

#3 Ask questions

Tiger did his own research on me, which I gotta say is pretty cool. He asked me how I go from powerlifting to getting ripped up for covers. He asked me about my exact nutrition plan, and what he should do in some situations. He knows that he is one of the best ever, but if he thought even for one second that he could learn from me, he was going to take it in.

I always feel the same way no matter who it is, and it was great to see Tiger with that same hunger for knowledge, even in his situation. Tiger cares about his body to a high degree, and it’s crazy to think of how many golf balls and changes of swings it has endured. I do believe that he is resting for a real comeback, and I hope to see him on the winners board again one day soon.
