Arnold’s Call That Pushed Me to Squat 315 x My Age

Most people take it easy on their birthday — cake, candles, maybe a drink or two. But Arnold? He’s built different.

Out of nowhere, Arnold called me on his birthday. He told me how he and Franco Columbu used to squat 315 pounds for as many reps as their age every year on their birthdays.

I had already crushed legs earlier that day, but that call? Different motivation. It wasn’t about chasing a PR or hitting some new number. It was about legacy, intensity, and the mindset that made guys like Arnold and Franco legends.

Could you do it? Here’s the rule: if you can’t do 315, scale it down. Use 135, 185, 225 — whatever weight you’re able to do. The weight shouldn’t be easy. The point isn’t the number, it’s the challenge and the mental toughness that comes with it.
