The power of having a deadline
I like to talk at length about having date on the calendar, the deadline and the fact that there is a time and place where you have to deliver. I’ve lived my whole adult life by this principle, understanding that the attempt at delivering is a major pillar of success.
It’s applicable everywhere
I believe that there are clear similarities in the business arena. If you have a deadline for a project, the only thing I want to hear are solutions, not excuses. To me, the solution is the winner.
There will always be problems. There’s always something going on. BUT, the people that are winning are delivering.
Are you delivering on the task at hand when it’s time?
Always go the extra step
If you shoot for the stars and end up on the moon, that’s okay. Then, when you are delivering, go the extra step.
This has been a staple of my customer service strategy over the past several years. I answer every direct message, every tweet and every Snap, and let me tell you, people DO NOT expect that. Set a deadline or date on the calendar, deliver on that day, and ultimately overdeliver on the process along the way. That right there is the key. That is how you make progress.
