“If you get under the bar, it’s a win.” — John Broz
Without the struggle…
What would you learn about yourself if you PR’ed every day you set foot in the gym? Without the struggle, the fear, the failure, it would be almost pointless in my opinion. Working towards your goal is a process, and it is important that you understand that, because it’s not going to happen overnight, and you are not going to feel your absolute best every day.
Squatting for over 3 years straight
I’ve squatted for over 3 years straight before, so I clearly know the difference between a good and bad day. Every day isn’t going to be your Super Bowl, and you have to be okay with that. It’s a process, and you must think long term. We live in a world of instant gratification, so everyone wants the 500 lb. squat right now. It’s about the work that you do over six months to a year that counts, not an individual day. Consistency is key.
The every day push
Now that I have experience with this methodology, I am regularly hitting weights on a bad day that I used to hit on a good day. I purposely will program my weaknesses such as high bar and front squat to make myself better because there is no point in me programming what I’m good at every day.
In my 4am crew I am getting beat DAILY, and I am not the strongest one in the group. That’s fine because I’m being pushed every day to get better by someone in my group, and I know that I am one step closer to accomplishing my next goal.

Hey G, love the article! And I love the hoodie you are wearing in that squat. You think you can drop a run of CoryG hoodies?

Needed to read this. This week’s training has been grueling so far, body is just feeling heavy and slower, but still pushing through workouts, getting one step closer. Show the fuck up.

I felt like this last week.

Do you feel like this on the weeks without bands? Just curious because I definitely feel more beat up on those weeks. I’m sure it’s at least part mental, but bringing the heavy weights to the bottom of the movements also has something to do with it for me.

I feel the same, especially this week. To me.. last weeks band tension was pretty grueling, my body is still recovering from it.

Honestly I don’t squat with bands much. More tempo work. Could just be the body working its mysterious ways. Could be a little dehydration, not really sure. Every now and then I’ll have those weeks but usually bounce back the following week if I just l stick to the guidelines.
