Desire & Expectation - CoryG Fitness

Early Career

Early on in my career I desired to be on the cover of magazines. Keep in mind that most guys that made the cover at the time were a shredded 220+ pounds. There wasn’t much room for the fitness, natural or drug-free guy.

Although it may have been discouraging, I maintained a deep desire to accomplish the goal of handing my grandfather a magazine with me on the cover. For me, this milestone marked the pinnacle of a career in the industry as a fitness professional and practitioner.

My desire and vision were completely clear.

I didn’t know how. I didn’t know when. I didn’t care how long it took. But I expected it to happen. Setting clear expectations pushed me to figure out a way to make it happen.

THAT IS THE SAUCE.

Giving up is easy

I can think of multiple instances throughout my career where it would have been incredibly easy to give up on the dream. For example, my first photoshoot was at GNC for Muscle & Body magazine. Greg Plitt, a legend in the industry, was shooting on the same day.

Going in, I was cutting down from a bulking phase, and I messed up a few things such as my sodium before the photoshoot. Long story short, I looked so bad that they couldn’t even finish the photoshoot. Twenty minutes in I literally had to say something to the photographer because I was just too soft.

I shit the bed on my dream opportunity.

Action is the first step

Desire is great. Expectation is great. The third piece is action. Actions play a chief role with end results. I’ve seen concrete results from my actions in the form of 13 magazine covers to date.

If you truly desire something, and you expect it to happen, you must implement the right action steps. This is very similar to how I feel about dunking right now. No matter my age… my consistent and healthy nutrition, study, and training will get me to where I want to go. I see it in my head. I know what I’m capable of.

I’m just not there YET.
