Why Compete at Almost Age 45? - CoryG Fitness

Competition = success

Always having competition in my life has helped me experience regular success.

I was average in all categories: as an athlete, as a strength athlete, and as a bodybuilder. I say “average” because I wasn’t born with amazing genes or talent. My roots were built on hard work and effort.

Consistent competition also breeds a healthy amount of accountability and pressure. I’ve learned to crave this feeling and I just can’t get enough of it. It makes me feel alive.

Without competition

Think about when an athlete stops playing sports. The structure, the practices, the games, and the locker room are gone.

All the more reason to put a date on the calendar. It could be a powerlifting meet, bodybuilding show, marathon, ruck, or any other type of competitive event.

My #4amcrew

My crew of lifters is the #4amcrew at Old School Gym.

My practice time is 4:00am, Monday through Friday.

My game days are my powerlifting meet days. That’s when I must show up for my team and for myself.

My locker room is filled with my brothers in iron at 4:00am, the Max Effort Muscle crew, and the CoryG Fitness community.

We all need it

Everyone needs accountability. Everyone needs a little pressure. Everyone needs competition.

If you’re never put to the test, you’ll lose it. It doesn’t matter if it’s powerlifting, bodybuilding, public speaking, or hunting. Being put to the test is how you grow and expand your boundaries.
